Wii launch

The launch dates and prices have all finally been confirmed! Kudos to Nintendo for keeping the dates close together for what will be a great international launch, the way it should be done. So much Wii news has been dished out in the past couple of days that it's hard to know where to begin.

Wii prices

The price tag of $250 USD is at the top end of what we expected, part of that may be because the Wii is bundled with Wii Sports in the US. What else is in the box? One wiimote, one nunchuk, a sensor bar, a stand, batteries, the necessary plugs and cables. Apparently additional wiimotes will cost $39.99, while nunchuks are separate at $19.99. To make full use of your Wii you'll have to buy an SD memory card as well.

On the games front, Nintendo are charging $49.99 for their first party games. That's a full $10 cheaper than Xbox 360 and expected PS3 titles. Nintendo have encouraged third party publishers to charge a similar price, but they are free to price games as they see fit.

Games on the Virtual Console are priced between $5 and $10, depending on the original system they were released on. Paying for these is done through an electronic card, which can be topped up at stores. The card uses a points system, whereby 2,000 points will cost $20. A NES game will set you back 500 points, SNES games are 800 points and N64 titles are 1,000 points.

Wii features

Taking a slight departure from their 'games-only' stance, Nintendo have incorporated some interactive features into the Wii's interface. When you power on your Wii you're greeted with a menu screen that has several options, some of these are what Nintendo are calling channels.

Channels that have been announced include news, weather forecasts, Internet browsing (using a specially built version of Opera), photo editing and caricature creation software called Mii. All of this is controlled intuitively using the Wiimote. Internet browsing on the Wii will be free of charge, however you will have to buy the browser initially using your Wii card points.

The Wii will not support DVD movie playback. This was done to keep costs down as Nintendo felt that most people already have a DVD player, a fair point indeed. Wii games and content will support the 16:9 aspect ratio used by HDTVs, but won't be in high definition.

Wii launch games

It's known that at least 25 games will launch alongside the Wii in the US. Of these, absolute certainties are:

• Red Steel
• Call of Duty 3
• Need for Speed: Carbon
• Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
• Trauma Center: Second Opinion
• Madden 07
• Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
• Elebits
• Rayman: Raving Rabbids
• Splinter Cell: Double Agent

Concrete details of others aren't known yet, but there will be many more on the shelves from day one. Metroid Prime 3 has unfortunately been delayed until 2007.

As reported earlier this month, the launch titles are not playable online. The first online game for Wii will be Pokemon Battle Revolution, expected to be released in Japan within 3 months of launch and shortly after in the US.

Wii summary

Wii-fever is everywhere right now, with only the most ardent of Sony fanboys (morons) talking it down. Big N plan on shipping 4 million Wii units worldwide for the launch, the bigger share going to the US. The console looks stunning. Surely Nintendo has the next generation in the bag. Surely!

Hey, what happened to all the posts! Anyway, I'm thinking of reserving the Wii or just waiting for a Metroid Prime 3 or Zelda TP Bundle. It's just too good to pass up. PS3? Yeah right! BlooRay is not even a reliable standard yet. Xbox fanboys are going to get stabbed in the back because MS is going to make xbox360 HD. That's right! They say that they are not going to make games on HDDVD discs. BS! Millions of obsolete 360s. I will pick up my Wii, thank you very much!

I suppose that people shouldn't complain about the price of the wii because the competitors' products are selling at relatively high prices. BigN may have put itself behind by releasing what some call "GCN 1.5" but I just really, REALLY hope there are more surprises that make the Wii a definite buy, even for skeptics. A more ergonomic classic control please!

What I love about getting the wii is all my die hard PS3 friends are working overtime already to save enough money to get a ps3 when it comes out. They are always talking about which 1 game they can afford to buy with it, where I already have the money to buy the Wii an extra controller and 3 awesome games.

I am disappointed that it's launching in only one color (white). BigN should have done surveys to get an idea on the demand for the different colors so that they can release the units accordingly and also not produce colors excessively. Also, rumor has it that Wii will support a USB Hard Drive. No matter the application, 512MB is not enough for anything and high capacity SD cards are expensive. I REALLY hope that the Wii will be compatible with off the shelf USB HDs. This would actually make the Wii a better bargain as a "media hub" than the 360 and PS3. The only thing that makes the competitors so expensive is the HiDef and new media formats. Both are actually not necesssary at this point in time because less people have HDTV than perceived and the format wars may hurt the industry. I'm glad that BigN did its research this time and played its cards right.

Some HDTVs have different HD interfaces and therefor the cost goes up if all are supported. For all retards who buy a $499 PS3 with NO HDMI, how are you going to use High Def anyway? It's a slick and deceptive tactic on Sony's part to make people buy the $599 PS3. Also, Sony shouldn't bank on the PSP business model. New UMD movie format: DEAD. GAMES: uninspired ports of PS2. That's why BlooRay: DOOMED & games: ports and sequels.

The reason that BigN is only releasing in one color is so that all units get sold without one disliked color sitting on the shelf. The Wii looks like a gift from the gods, but I am miffed about the controller price. $60 with the nunchuck seems a bit too much for me. And anyone know if Wii will be $250 in Canada too, or will it be more like $280 with a conversion rate? LOZ:TP FOREVER!

People who complain about the price of the Wiimote aren't considering what's inside there. It has sensors to detect positions in full 3D space and a speaker, in addition to all the usual things like buttons, rumble etc. These aren't some shitty PS2 pads.

Yeah you're right. But allegedly the wii-mote speaker has horrible quality. Hope it's not true though. Still can't wait to get my hands around one of them. But has anyone heard anything about the zapper gun? They released info on the wiimote and classic but nothing about the zapper.

I agree with PHiRE. PS2 pads are crap. My PS2 pad fell off the desk several times and pieces of it were shaking inside! The wiimote is expensive but relatively speaking, it's the most advanced controller compared to the "traditional" ones. My other gripe with BigN is that there is only one wiimote! Why not include two wiimotes since it's SUPPOSED to be a party system. The box art could have had 2 wiimotes next to each other so the box could subliminally say "Wii", but that's just my view. I like BigN but some gripes could have made Wii a must buy for skeptics.

Are these prices confirmed? It seems to me that both Aussies and the Europeans seem to be losing out on the prices people! AUD$400=USD$300, 180GBP=USD$341, 250EUR=USD$317.4 all VS USD$250 in the US. I'm in Australia so I'm not happy. Not happy at all. Still, I could have lived in England! But yeah, we have to pay a solid $1k for the PS3 so it's a tad better.

It's disheartening to see what Sony & Microsoft are doing to the gaming industry. Costs and programming difficulty have gone up and budgets reach past $10 million. Game developers will not be willing to risk that kind of money on an original epic next gen title. Expect sequels my friends. So for everyone who has a PS2 (including me so I'm screwed 2), you can bet that niche titles are never again going to see the light of day. Wii may be less powerful, but due to lower development costs and ease, there will be more games available. Expect LARGE gaps between "Next Gen" game releases, and who knows if they will be good! PS3 and 360 will be the fanboy systems (not Wii) because they will have sequels and clones and Wii will have variety and innovation. This "Next Gen" jump is complete suicide because it's premature, unprofitable and bad for gamers in this cycle. BigN was right to leave out HD and complexity. Hopefully, Wii delivers more hardcore games and THE BLACK WII (damn it!) along the way. Theoretically, Wii looks like a more profitable system to me, 360 and PS3 may suffer HUGE losses this cycle. Thank goodness Square Enix is not committing to PS3 this cycle because I'm a FF fan and I'm expecting a good Wii FF. So while your PS3s and 360s are being repaired and you are waiting an eternity for HALO 4 & FFXIV, pick up a Wii.

I'm sick of all this sony talk screw sony, all they do is jock off of everybody else's ideas and flopray (blueray) will flop like beta in the late 80's. I have 360 and I love my pc, so my 360 gives me the sense of a pc on or offline, but the Wii will carve its name in video game history on November 19th 2006! PS3 will be so cool says the know-nothing Sony fanboys. If so why did they sort of jock off the Wii's controller with the twistable pos ps3 controller? Like the 3rd party one for ps1 that sucked, I threw mine in the trash literally. Sony and their same old boring designs what a joke, come on Sony just give up. Your ps2s were the biggest buy back systems of all time, every game store I have ever walked into had so many used ps2's they didnt know what to do with them (maybe because they were junk). Wii will be simply amazing so I can already see SD cards, flash drives, retro gaming (oh yes!), one awesome controller/remote, web browsing channels. What can compare with that? Sony can have their overpriced 600 dollar junk.

The term "next generation" is a buzzword to delude us into thinking that their games are all new. The control method is the same, therefor the experience is the same. Yes the visuals are great, but that's where the fun lies; STARING at the games not PLAYING them. Big N emphasizes on the latter and not necessarily the visuals for core gameplay. Wii is true next gen, because graphics won't cut it much longer.

One thing is that graphics do not make a game but good play control and fun factor do. 360 is still too early a console to see really good graphics yet until programmers get a better feel for its hardware, which is always the case on any new system as will it be on the Wii. The Wii's graphics will not be the greatest at first either. They have to learn the console first. If programmers could just slam out games with sinister graphics on new consoles then where would the learning process be? But I do agree that the Wii will be a better console!

It's great that Nintendo will make a profit on the Wii right away. Why? Profit = more money, more development funds, better games/more games, more software bought/more consoles bought/companies wanting to produce their awesome games on the dominant console, more developers working on great games for the Wii/profit. Anyone have any idea about the size of the virtual console roms? BigN says that the wii has 512MB internally, but there are problems. The memory available will be less because it has to be formatted, it may have to store system data and who knows what else.

Though there was a game being worked on on the Saturn, the graphics were really good, but then Saturn died so it went on Dreamcast. PS3 is WAY too much (oh lord, and think about the TAX here in California... $48 extra. Ouch!). Well, this generation should be enjoyable. Wii's gonna kick some serious ass.

Mario is gonna Wii on the PS3. Rumor has it that Wii might even have a DOA and Soul Calibur. They already have Kasumi and Hayabusa on the Super Swing Pangya! Imagine a console that has all 3 of the best fighting games. That would be a definite must buy.

I agree that the Sega Saturn was hard to program for *cough* in the USA because of lazy US developers. It stayed strong in Japan, but they actually put effort into their games. I can't wait for import Wii games. Also not just the price on ps3 is bad but the ps3 will suck big time just like ps1 & ps2 (Sony junk). Americans need to stop making crap 10 cent games like Tony Hawk & Need for Speed junk, we need to be like the japs and really put the effort into the games. Why do you think more people import than buy our own games? The american game industry is in trouble and people don't even know it. I agree with Jrapocalypse. The American game industry has basically run out of ideas. Most of the games for PS3 are going to be sequels and rehashes of old formulas. Expect GFX updates and slight gameplay tweaks of your existing genres. I'm a Gran Turismo fan, but when I heard that GTHD was just GT4 in HD and they are going to charge for each downloadable car and track, that just set me off! Why not have a "Virtual Car Builder" included with the game? But NO, Sony wants to rip more cash out of my ass for every upgrade. Also the $59 price tag for games was not confirmed yet by Sony! Good luck selling a $70 HD rehash. That's why the PS3 will be the home of Big Budget Re-runs and nothing "Next Gen". There's also word that the PS3's life span is expected to be an unprecedented TEN YEARS! BluRay has not even picked up YET! Sony is using PS2 momentum and PS3 hype to make the PS3 seem larger than life. Back to the Wii. If ONLY if it launched in BLACK!

Word to all who call the Wii a "toy". A local radio station in my area is already having a Wii giveaway. It's not a kiddie station so don't get it twisted. I was surprised to hear that because I would expect a station like that to have a PS3 or 360 giveaway. It's great that the "toy" image associated with the GCN will not carry over to the Wii.

The 360 is ok, I like the retro arcade games a lot and a few of the new games are ok but not really next gen. If I could destroy Sony in one blow I would, and Sega would be back in the hardware business. Sega and Nintendo the original OG's, but hey Sega still makes kick ass games and Nintendo is going to carve its name so deep with the Wii, Sony will be lost forever (yes!). As long as the game is fun to me, I don't care if its E or M. I'm a PC gamer and a Nintendo fanboy. After I realized how much better FPS's were on PCs with precise mouse control, I was turned away from consoles for a lot of games. I'm really excited for the FPS's on the Wii along with everything else. I really hope they get some good strategies with the wiimote and all.

I get the Wii for ?180 but then because I am a student I get another 10% discount so I get it for ?163. Then I can get extra wiimote and nunchuk for ?40 which is then about ?36 for me. But think about it, the xbox controllers are still ?25 so just wait til you get the cheaper made versions of the controller. There are dozens of rip off ps2 controllers you can get cheaper than the proper ps2 ones.

Who cares about HD movie players in consoles? PS3 and 360 will suffer the same fate like PS2 and Xbox when it comes to movie playback; they're low end and secondary! I would not rather these companies complicate the industry with this nonsense. Most people are going to get a full featured HD player anyway. It's good that Wii doesn't have DVD to drive the price up. Is it me or shouldn't gaming come 1st in a console and not the extra fluff and frills that have nothing to do with enjoying a game. Also, approx 25% of US households have HDTVs and who knows what percentage of that makes up the diehard gaming populace targeted by PS3 and 360. Wii caters to the masses, so there. Furthermore, there has not been an affordable HD solution to the contemporary living room TV. The HD revolution is not going to be widespread until the next 4 to 5 yrs and lo and behold, the console cycle is OVER! Now huge losses for PS3 and 360, even though they may sell. Thought 600 bucks was expensive? In 2012 when it's time to recoup losses from their unprofitable consoles don't complain when Sony demands 1000 for the PS4 with "Quantum Cell Emotion" processor and the 720 has 3 configs making the base 720 obsolete. As I said before, games are to be played not looked at, that's why Wii will be UNSTOPPABLE!

I used to be a HUGE Nintendo fan boy until Playstation 1 blew away the Nintendo 64 (I'm a big RPG gamer and N64 was lacking in that department). I still got the cube along my PS2 but it rarely got much use. I was thinking that Nintendo was dead in the water, but between the Wii and the DS, they've completely brought me back! Where I was once wanting Sony to rule the market. I now want Nintendo to take the lead! GO NINTENDO GO!

The Wii is gonna rule for one simple reason. We are all sick and tired of the same damn game done over and over again with better gfx and maybe a new idea every other game.I can hardly wait to see what NEW game types will be found after we all have a year or so to play around with the Wiimote and come up with new ideas. The n64 was better than Playstation 1, I don't care about new RPGs anyway they suck, no good stories, the same 3d crap, bad battle systems. What happened to the good RPGs like Star Ocean and the old school Phantasy Star? Not everybody likes RPGs enough to have one system over the next. In my mind the hardware is where it counts, without good hardware games tend to look a little trashy (cough cough Sony!) but either way I don't care. I got my Wii paid in full and ready for the 19th of November with Zelda, Metal Slug and Red Steel.

512MB might not be a lot today but for those old games it's going to do just fine. Come on that's like almost 500 NES games or 200 SNES games. They didn't take much memory at all. You could even go without storing them and just download them each time. It would only take seconds to do. Now the N64 games will of course take more but I am not reaally sure how much.

Wii is going to revolutionize the entire game playing experience. Experience; isn't that what gaming is all about? Wii is the truly the next gen console, best graphics will always be obsoleted by new ones but innovative gaming experience is an ultimate one time deal which Wii has nailed! Nintendo should be applauded for their vision.

Ashlar, good to have you back on our side. Sony is evil. I'm a bit worried about all these graphics I've been seeing. I mean, look at the landscaping for Heatseeker. I've seen better graphics on the N64. I know that Nintendo didn't want to improve on graphics that much because gamers would just keep wanting more, but making the graphics worse is just DUMB. I hope this is just the development companies that are doing this instead of Nintendo. I REALLY hope it is. Or XBOX will take over the world. Metroid will never die, remember that!

I just put an XBOX 360 on lay-a-way and reading all of this just make me want to get my money back and buy the Wii. I'm still going to buy the 360 and the Wii will have to wait until my birthday next year in May. By that time the zapper, Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy should be on the market. They should have had a red Wii on launch date too. It's still all good though. The PS3 is too much money for a dumb ass system and company. Can you create your own character for Wii sports on Mii Channel? I hope I have fun with the Xbox 360. I will get a PS3 in 2011, when the price go down and all the dumb asses bought it. Wii is going to rule. At first I thought the Wii was going to suck because of the Wiimote, but that was a great idea and I hope Wii will get revenge for Nintendo being in last place against the PS2 and Xbox. The virtual console doesn't work that way, all games are downloaded straight through Wii, it never goes to your computer. Only your router or modem.

I wish I could know if they are at least going to release a patch later for games like COD3 to be online. I mean that's like half of what makes the game. FPS titles I believe are what's going to make Wii amazing! Consoles have always sucked with FPS compared to a mouse and keyboard PC. Wii can change that. But if they can't go online with COD3 and Red Steel etc not even with a downloadable patch in 07, I think that will hurt them. It also makes me second-guess getting COD3.

Every so often, I knock on Sony and MS, but BigN isn't without its faults. Where's the advertising for Wii!? BigN already has the "ipod white" color so why not gets some ads out. The color alone will help people remember the Wii. If by holiday season someone asks, "what's a Wii?", then BigN is just asking to get trounced by Sony. Also, we will just have to wait and see how much gfx really matter when the systems are released. In this cycle, the gfx differ by a wider margin than the previous cycle, so BigN has to put their money where their mouth is in order to make people KEEP the system. The requirements for the USB wifi adapter are the same as the requirements for the current one on the Nintendo website (works with the DS). Also, you will probably be able to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse since the wii controller uses bluetooth.

I agree with scooby jew, the wii is going to revolutionize gaming in a whole new way. New ideas will spawn with crazy new games to play, but remember that graphics do not make a good game. I could play a game with the best graphics ever and really sad gameplay then how fun would that be for me? So as long as Nintendo makes fun interesting games I'm set. And as for Sony I don't want a console with the same games (rehashes) same controller, same look, hell with Sony. I will just kick it with the Wii and 360. Wii will dominate with new innovation.

To dada's post, BigN region locked the Wii games and they also have region specific Virtual Console content so it's highly likely that GCN games are region locked also. I would rather have access to all VC content, because a developer from another country may put up a killer VC app that everybody wants but not access. Anyways, PS3 is Sony's way of forcing us to buy unnecessary crap. I'm sure that they are going to open a Sony online media store so that you can buy their music and movies at an inflated price and in addition to that, you can only play it on the PS3 or stream it to the PSP. This "Media Center" crap has nothing to do with gaming. It dosen't take a rocket scientist to make a PC into a media hub, but of course, some people like to buy the same old junk in a different package. Sony and MS have an agenda and gaming is just a front. Also, I think that they are producing too many white Wiis and it makes me think that they are not going to produce the black or grey one that I want. The black one would still have a mass market appeal.

I predict the Wii will EXPLODE in Japan. Just look at how the DS turned out (4 million units sold JUST in Japan). The DS and Wii have mainly the same focus; to innovate. I have a couple of Japan-only games and they're excellent, which proves that the design of the DS really inspires Japanese developers to make great games. Although Americans are too busy entranced with Grand Theft Auto and Halo (which are good games, don't get me wrong) to know what the hell a Wii is, but maybe if they try a new thing. I am with Scooby, rechargeable AAs are relatively cheap and easy. Get four for each controller if you want to be uber safe too. I dunno about US/EU/JPN, but in Australia you can go down to a local supermarket and pick up a pack for less than $10AU (roughly $7US or 5euro) with recharger. The batteries were the only thing I was worried about (having owned a Dreamcast, those VMU batteries are the worst ever. Period) but since they're just AA there shouldn't be too many problems, just the battery life.

So Sony thinks they are going to enter the computer market with their ps3 HA, that's so funny! They have nothing on the Wii, I know someone who has had a small taste of Wii and ps3 who will remain anonymous. But he said the ps3 was nothing special at all just a retooled ps2 with not a game in the world or good enough hardware that makes it worth $600 (cough cough lol). He said the 360 is still better than the ps3 but the Wii is where it's at, so thanks to my manager friend of a game store. Ps3 is already a failure I love it so much, Nintendo has already went Wii all over the competition.

Sony can't be serious if they pass the PS3 off as a CPU to justify the price. A modular game console is doomed to failure because consoles were made to be an affordable alternative to CPU games. Everyone and their grandma has a portable music player and there are attachments to easily hook it up to a home stereo, so loading a music collection to the PS3 isn't going to change the world. Who needs a PS3 TV tuner when there are cheaper DVRs. The 20GB model was outdated before its conception. PS3 to PSP has potential but $600+$200 for a novel game experience is crazy. Also, a good HDTV costs more than $3000 bucks! (enough said). HD gfx don't make a game. Look at Grand theft Auto's horrible gfx engine but it sold millions! Since it's technically a CPU, they will (Sony ACTUALLY said this!) release newer versions of the PS3 over the next 10 yrs. This means that the consumer is shafted when it comes to price reduction. Finally, BluRay is unproven. I'm willing to bet that the PS3 will never reach $200 by 2014. Now I'm bummed out because I will have Final Fantasy Fever for a LONG time. The Wii can technically be a PS3 if it's compatible with USB HDs but the Wii doesn't need to be fluffed to make it "next gen". PS3 and 360 can fight over who is the better computer, while Wii conquers!

Chances are, if you haven't pre-ordered a PS3, then you aren't getting one until Spring. With less than 400K PS3s out there, it severely limits the number of games that will be sold. Wii has to capitalize on this by releasing more 3rd party killer apps by the holidays. Zelda TP is a juggernaut title, but PS3 will have more than one juggernaut title available. Zelda cannot carry Wii or else we will have another GCN on our hands. Also, watch out when upgrading your 360s; you will get a doorstop.

I got to play the Wii at a GameStop kiosk today and my hopes were confirmed. The Wii, simply put, IS awesome. Although they only had Excite Truck at the kiosk, I can say that for the racing genre, so far, so awesome. It really DOES make you feel more like you're driving the truck and feels more fun than just pointing a stick in the direction you want to go. Bottom line: if you like racing games the Wii is for you. News for other genre fans to come. Also, Master Foot. Yes, you are overreacting. Why is it that the Classic controller has to plug into the wiimote? Technically, it's still wired. Nintendo could have plugged it through the GCN control port. It would have been even better if they made it wireless. If the wiimote can supposedly last that on 2 AAs, then it should last longer in the classic controller. From a business standpoint, it forces consumers to buy the wiimote.

Master Foot, the reason that the classic controller connects to the wiimote is so its wireless, and it gives the controller more weight. Since the wiimote clips onto the back of it, you can also still have motion control. I just realized what you said is true. If you want to have 4 classic controllers, you're forced to get 4 wiimotes. The Wavebird is somewhat better than the Classic because it's totally wireless. The fact that the classic controller is tethered to the wiimote irritates me a bit. The button layout should have been like SNES. There are pics of the back of the Classic controller and there is no way that the wiimote can attach to it. Anyway, BigN better deliver on the gameplay revolution, the wait is unbearable.

When I got my NDS the touchscreen got scratched to an unusable level. I was still under warranty period so I wanted to get it replaced/fixed but they said that the warranty didn't cover the lower screen. I am wondering whether they will do that with the included controller?

I would think full screen because even when when you played an N64 game on the N64 it was full screen. It shouldn't make a difference just because of the VC. They probably will look enhanced along with the GameCube games. The question with the expanded memory pack stumps me.

I played Wii yesterday at a game store near my house which had a Wii kiosk and excite truck to play. I am now really impressed enough with that game to play others. Hey sony get out while you still can because 360 fans love their xbox live and as far as the Wii you have nothing on it, I see last place for sony amongst hardcore gamers once again (ha ha ha). I played the Wii today and on Thursday, the games I played were Wii sports, Wii play, Excite truck and the greatest game of all time The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess. It was so sweet. Best of all there was no line, just me. I had time to finish the demo dungeon for TP six times, fish and play all the other games before it was over. Oh and I didn't catch a stupid ordon catfish like everyone else, I caught 3 hylian bass. The controls were so smooth and sexy.

This question goes to the people who played the Wii. What happens when you pause the game and resume play? In Zelda, are the sword movements gesture based or mapped exactly onto the screen? Anyway, I applaud BigN for trying something new but they have to help developers unlock the power of the wiimote because it is pivotal to the Wii's success. I really don't want to see half-assed attempts with the wiimote in games. Developers also need to pay attention to the physics engine to complement the wiimote functionality. Now to PS3. From what I've seen gfx are great but even I as a hardcore gamer don't see what all the fuss is about. Genji looks like it ripped off of Devil May Cry and still got bad reviews despite its looks. Resistance looks like another shooter despite the fact that it has the best weapons. From what I've seen, they haven't payed attention to liquid physics of the blood. Let's just say that I was expecting a little more "flow effect". If you look closely in the Final Fantasy 13 trailer, the character's hair remains stiff during her elaborate acrobatics. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but for a $600 system and $60 games, I expect everything to be rendered like real life because that's the grave that Sony dug themselves.

Yah played Wii too on Saturday. It was a smooth handling and interesting experience on the Wii mote. Think the promotional exercises in Australia were not as exuberant and extensive as promos in Japan and the States. The trial on the system did prove one point, that graphics really didn't matter as much as the gameplay. Well done Nintendo!

I just read an article that made me mad. The Wii isn't meant to match the PS3 for graphics, it dropped out of the graphics race and concentrated on gameplay. After all isn't that what games are about? To compare Wii to PS3 is like comparing my work van to my car, they both have different features based on their purpose. Wii is meant to be fun and PS3 is trying to be the replacement for the home computer, it's really just going to deliver the same gameplay experience of the PS2 only with more eye-candy graphics. The Wii on the other hand may actually make my girlfriend go hey now that's a game I'd like to play.

Me and my friends are having a Wii party on launch day, we've worked out who's buying what game so we don't all show up with the Legend of Zelda and are going to have a fun filled night testing em out. I don't see what the big deal is about the PS3. So what if it has slightly better graphics than Wii? And the excuse that it has an HD-DVD player? Come on! DVDs are already so close to perfect picture quality, how can a HD-DVD be that much better? (oh yeah, I checked, a good, quality DVD player is like $20). And the Xbox 360? Please. What's the difference between it and the Xbox? In my opinion, all video game consoles prior to the Wii are inferior. They're all the same! There is absolutely NO difference! Finally Nintendo changed changed something. There's no memorizing twenty-nine button combinations to complete the command: "walk". You don't press a button to swing the bat, you swing! No one seems to understand me! The PS3 and Xbox 360 are the same as Gamecube and PS2 and Xbox and PS1 and NES! Wii is different!

I waited for a Wii for over 12 hours and it was worth all of it. The people in the lineup were awesome. The staff at the Future Shop had planned well. At around 7:30 AM they handed out tickets and took names of the people that were waiting until they got to 42nd person as they only had that many Wiis. Then when the store actually opened they let 3 Wii ticket owners at a time in to purchase their games and console. Unfortunately they let normal shoppers in and didn't realize at first that some of these shoppers were also buying Wii accessories and games. However, they told staff to only sell Wii related merchandise to those who had a Wii console. Setup for this was relatively quick and painless. The remote was pre-synched to my machine and worked intuitively. I had no problem choosing menu options or using the onscreen keyboard, I was extremely impressed with how easy it was to use. The only problem I had was that the wireless router that I finally hooked up now that I had a reason to use it, wasn't registered with my Internet provider so it took me a bit to realize that not only was the Wii 'unable to connect' but neither were any of the computers in the house. After this it was smooth sailing. It took a while for the update but I wasn't surprised. Looking at the support section of Nintendo, I have had none of the problems that they've mentioned there. I even synched my second remote with no problems. All in all this system seems great and I'm really excited to see my sons face when he opens this on Christmas day. (I currently have the thing hidden in the bedroom.) I also purchased an SD card. When you save the game for say Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, it saves to the Wii, however, by navigating through the Wii menu you can copy the file over to the SD memory card. I'm curious about watching mov files and playing MP3s but right now I don't have an SD card reader at my house. For parents the coolest feature I've noticed is that it keeps track of the time you've spent playing games, and even more importantly which games. If I can block my son from deleting this information then this will be great to not only see how long he has spent playing but also whether he's been playing any games that are 'off-limits' and he shouldn't even have access to play. Sorry for the long post but I am extremely excited about this system.

I've been creating my game characters and celebrities with the Mii channel. This channel is actually good, so don't pass it up. In my opinion it gives the Wii a personality. I can't wait for updates. The graphics really don't really matter in Wii Sports. Just a thought, maybe they should update it with online team contests and tournaments. I don't like 360, but it is actually in a better position than PS3. It has BETTER online, same games and larger base. It even stole Playstation exclusives like GTA and Final Fantasy! I hope that Wii does the same. Reviewers say that the media functionality is not as intuitive as 360 and they have the same games. So why did Sony delay PS3 for an ENTIRE YEAR!? With regards to value, they made a substandard system. They say CHEAP BLU RAY PLAYER? That shows you Sony's motive point blank. I've seen the Sony NBA game in 720p and the graphics are no better than 1st gen 360. PS3 is going to need 10yrs to catch up. I would buy one to SELL it for $5000. Wii is just a stepping stone to Nintendo's next big project.

WOO HOO the sooner I got the Wii I had most of my friends over and we had an all out Wii PARTY! I only bought one extra controller but that did'nt even matter all my friends were up and at the Wii playing boxing and bowling especially. Compared to just sitting on the couching mashing buttons to actually hitting the ball with a virtual bat is way better! The day after the Wii party my arms were so tired but that's because I played three matches in a row in boxing.

I really see Wii as a 1st console for most people. I think Wii will be the console everybody owns but most people will also own a second console. The X-BOX360 and PS3 will fight it out to be that second console. I've owned the PSX, PS2, XBOX, N64, Nintendo DS and PSP and for me it's been a question of games. What games do I want to play, not really what console. I'm buying the Wii because I believe it is the only true Next-Gen as it changes the way you interact with games and for me that's the big attraction to this console. Also because it's the first console my girlfriend has ever taken an interest in, which may mean that Nintendo attracts a girl market which until now really has been neglected unless you like karaoke (god I hate sing star) or the Sims. It's like less than two weeks until the Wii's release and my god I just can't wait.

To giguere35: Yes mine syncs just fine go to your Wii options and under sensor bar recalibrate the wiimote just like they recommend you recalibrating the ds which I do every 2 days. And I agree that the Wii is the only real next gen console, but I also enjoy my 360 on or off line. As far as the ps3 goes I don't have time for some ripoff artists to sell me some of their experimental (blu-ray, lolol) junk! Ps3 is a waste of time and money, all it is is a retooled ps2 with blu-ray and a cell processor which are slow junk and like to conflict with the rest of the hardware. I used them on pc's before the ps3 an after using both they are slow and unstable!

Does anyone know if you can transfer Wii saves from the built in memory to an SD card? I don't see option in the File Manager, so do I have to update it? Also, do SD cards have to be formatted to a Wii file system in order to use it as a storage device? Interestingly enough, I was playing Smash Melee and I forgot that there was a be button. It's strange what the wiimote can do. In the Mii Channel, I have created Selphie, Cloud, Dante, Virgil, Mario, Luigi, Hitler, Elvis, and Tyra Banks but it needs more hair templates.

The Wii is awesome! I got a Wii yesterday for waiting in line for 3 hours and it was so worth it. I also got Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and it is the first Zelda I'm going to try. The console is so sleek and beautiful and the Wii remote and nunchuk controllers fit the hand perfectly. The Wii console, Wii remote, nunchuk controller, and sensor bar are nice and small. I'm addicted to Wii sports because its just so fun. The Mii channel is also really great and I made a Mii of my whole family. Making Miis with family is really funny. Hope everyone else gets a Wii too soon!

To Jrapocalypse: Metal Slug has now been pushed to 12-05-06. I am enjoying my Wii very much. Wii offers PURE gameplay experience over all the other offerings. Zelda is just pure fun to play and is more deep than Genji on the PS3. I only compare these games as they both have hack and slash set up and adventure elements. Twilight Princess is tops! Wii Sports is awesome multiplayer since the old days of Contra on NES!

To CaKe: In Wii Sports there is an option that let's you select left or right hand play, though I have not seen any type of option for Zelda or Trauma Center. These games require the nunchuck so that may have something to do with it.

Why did Sony even bother to release PS3 now!? It's practically an unfinished system. They released a product that is substandard to the premium 360 in most respects. To even get one, you NEED to hire your own personal SWAT team for protection. WRT PSP, even with the impending release of the new Final Fantasy, I still would not buy it. The Wii virtual console is one of BigN's trump cards. Let's just hope that they don't squander it by holding out on the true classics.

Question: I'm thinking about getting a wii for my kids (12 and 15), but the older one doesn't like the idea of the controller (using motions and all that). Can the new games be played the 'old' way with the remote acting as regular controller or do you HAVE to do the motions? i.e. swinging it if you are playing baseball. Thanks.

No, you can get the CLASSIC CONTROLLER and hook it up to the Wii-mote. So in short no he doesn't have to use the motion sensor but he definitely will be missing out and eventually he'll love the motion sensor. Who couldn't!

I'm just taking a break from my Wii. Wow that's all I say. Wii sports is awesome, love the tennis. Finally a tennis game I can play. The speaker in the control is an awesome idea and Zelda... Na there isn't a word I can think of that would do the game justice. If you're buying a Wii and not getting Zelda it better be because you broke the piggy bank buying the console. It's one of those games everyone loves to own, if you can find someone who doesn't like playing this game I will find you a monkey that can say the A B C's.

Many places review Wii Sports unfairly, they do not understand the fun it brings! For my experience, I felt like the first time I played Nes. I was 10 years old then. Now how good is that? Screw Sony with it's pricey toast maker. Wii is something new and it brings us what we need. ENJOYMENT, GOOD TIME! We don't need graphics or superior processors that need fan of a size of car tyre inside. All we need is Wii! Gaming Future has begun I would say.

Most games have to use the motion sensing controller, but some use the classic controller. I think you should get it, as the only point of getting it is for the motion sensing.

There was a riot in the uk outside the only shop (HMV) that had consoles not on preorder. There were about 200 people there!

One day I went to EB Games and they had the Wii on display. I went in thinking I could try it out but the person who worked there took the Wii remote and I was not able to play it! Then some teenagers came in and went to the Wii and noticed there was no remote to use so they left. Two curius teenagers stayed and the one put his finger on the screen on the Exite Truck game option and his friend just said "it's not a touch screen moron!" It was funny!

I was the 64th person in Melbourne (Australia, Victoria) to get my Wii and since then it hasn't been off. I have been in my glory with it, I have only found 1 problem, the fact that the control uses AA batteries and not a lithium battery like the ones in phones with a charger, because I'm on my second pair of batteries in 5 days. Not to mention that I play it for more than 10 hoyrs a day! I have red steel and call of duty 3 and omg, maddest thing ever. I will never buy a 360 or PS3, waste mate. Plus chicks dig the Wii because you don't sit on your arse and push buttons, they can join in and play. Wii 4 life!

I got a wii remote to work on PC via bluetooth, it's fully functional with winamp. I press "A" and winamp opens, other buttons I mapped to do, next track, previous track, volume, etc. And home button closes winamp, so all I do is press button and setup playlist to winamp, and I can control it anywhere in the house, SO COOL! I used glovepie to run script for wiimote "generic joystick drivers" then just installed joystick plugin to winamp, and YEAH! Now last night I was able to get control to vst plugins with wiiremote, I controlled pretty much everything with it, I was making music with record on, twisted and moved Wii remote to create some nice ambient sounds, WOHOOO! What a TOOL! Just get bluetooth for your pc, and download software called bluesoleil. It does work!

To Ryan H. If you live North America your mom didn't get you a Wii because you could only preorder them before launch. No stores are taking orders for the Wii. So chances are you didn't get one.

I live in the UK and work in Toys R Us, and I got my Wii for 299.99, with the four extra games package. But mum bought it for me for an xmas present, she won't let me play it until xmas day!

I am going insane. I STILL to this day, a week before one month after the Wii's launch (confusing, I know), do not have a Wii! The competition is just unimaginable. Wal-Mart was selling the Wii at 8 AM and even in the small town that I live in I heard that people were staying at Wal Mart since 12 AM. That was 2 weeks after the Wii's launch and STILL the competition hasn't let down even a little bit. So if anybody can: Please buy Mii a Wii, my parents won't let me stay at Wal Mart for 10 hours to get a game system.
