The latest hardware sales charts from Media Create show that the DS is continuing its dominance over the PSP and all other gaming consoles in Japan.
Last week the DS sold 228,939 units. It left the PSP a distant second, which had 27,499 sales. So far in 2006 the DS has sold over 3 million more units than the PSP over in Japan.
While not strictly Wii-related, this news can't fail to bring a smile to those of us who are DS fans.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

PSP is so expensive. That's the only reason why. Oh yeah, and why the heck is DS peeing all over PSP?
PHiRE said:
I think pricing is only a part of it. The DS is something new and exciting, the buzz around PSP died when people realised it was just a recycled PS2. It just doesn't have the same fun factor.
Killer Ape said:
The DS must've had to go really bad.
Unknown said:
Just like the 360.
Jhett said:
Awesome pic. And to quartzlcc, it's marking its territory and stating that the PSP is its bizatch. Because the DS is the alphamale! Either that or it has a bladder infection.
Jhett said:
Unknown, nice burn. I think that deserves a SNAP!

I just bought a DS Lite about a week ago and it is awesome. Go Nintendo!
Jhett said:
I have a DS but I want a DS Lite so bad. Don't have the money man, it's supposed to be a portable system, the DS classic is a friggen brick!

You should see people on the subway here. I saw one dude with a Blue DS Lite the day it came out playing Magical Vacation.

I don't personally own a DS and don't really want to. I do want a PSP. Yet I still want the DS to win and am glad it is doing so. Weird huh?

Yes! Yes yes yes. Die Sony!

I don't get psp at all, poor controls, sticking finger-hurting buttons, the shoulder buttons look like that perspex plastic and don't compare to a DS. It only has 1 screen, no touchscreen, no mic etc. It's just a gameboy with all new graphics, whereas the DS goes way beyond graphics. What's with the long load times and the need for a memory stick for saves? The Sony memory sticks flopped so they became a PSP save card. How terribly sad, memory stick dead, UMD dead, Bluray soon to be dead. Long live and profit Nintendo.

I used to have a PSP and it sucked so much that I gave it away. Sure it has better graphics but most of the games (all of them) suck! Also PSPs BRICK, meaning if you have too much stuff it will overload and never work again. DS doesn't do that. Which is one of the many, many reasons why DS slaughters PSP in sales.

I knew from day one the DS would murder the PSP.

Well in a few weeks I'm buying the black DS lite that only came out in Australia yesterday.

I didn't know a DS could pee that much. Mine only has about a liter and occasional diarrhoea.
WiiConverted=( said:
DS took a lot of bashing at the beginning. It came out on top.
wii-mote dude said:
My DS is jealous because it didn't get to short out the PSP. It hates PSPs.
Sampson85 said:
Just ordered black ds lite, can't wait for it to turn up. GO ninty!

Just today, I went into a game store to trade in my old DS for a DS Lite, and they said they'd give me $35 bucks for it. That's a bit more than 1/4, that's god-awful.
didukno said:
Hey DS can also play music and movies just like the PSP. With the third party hardware combined with a DS, it still costs less than a PSP.
FoolKilla said:
They had it coming. If they're going to be idiots and sell a PSP for 250 bucks, then no one is going to buy it and sell their house to get the memory required for it. Nevertheless buying all the 50 dollar games with it. The DS has $30 games. Besides, I have a DVD player in my car.
Hey said:
That pee was pretty dark. The DS Lite should drink more water.
King Bobby said:
Everyone knew this was going to happen. Just like the Wii is going to murder the PS3. My DS Phat and My DS Lite teamed up and beat up my PSP.
wiiwii said:
I own a DS and I love it. The more games you have, the better it is, same with every console. Because PSP games cost loads, PSPs SUCK MAN!
Thendakor said:
I think both the DS and the PSP are great pieces of kit. However, there have been loads more games on DS that appeal to me and I've had more fun playing my DS than the PSP. It's a shame the PSP is dying a slow death. It has a lot of potential.
Ebuka said:
I am so trading my psp in for a DS Lite (or a DS at least!).
Scooby!_Jew said:
Nintendo's the master when it comes to making low-price, but high-quality and durable products, I think that's why the DS is doing so much better than the PSP. On top of that Nintedo's been in the gaming business for 20 years and more people trust Nintendo than Sony. And Ebuka: Smart move.
Master Foot said:
I don't know why I was going to get a PSP before. Maybe I was blinded by hype. Luckily I saved my $250. Even at $199 it does not seem like a good buy to me. It does everything, but nothing well. The ports are getting me sick.
Gonzo said:
Can anybody say slaughter-time? And why is the DS Lite pissing all over the Psp? That's funny.
i have a wii said:
Yep. Can't wait to get a ds lite. I hate psp, it's ugly and it um.. Uuuh.. it just looks like a peacan ok! There I said it.
