In the hope of latching onto the Wii's success, the Cape Coral library in Florida will be installing Wii consoles. The thinking is that kids will come for the video games, but stay for the books. Library worker Dawn Wright commented:
"If each kid plays for 15 minutes, the rest of the kids are going to be waiting and they're going be talking. They're going to be picking up books".
It's expected that soon several more libraries across the Lee County will follow and install their own Wiis.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

That's kind of weird.

That's a good idea.

Nice concept. But, they may find out that these kids are willing to wait in line to play the games as often as they're willing to sit and read. And when they all eventually get their own Wii, they may stop coming altogether.

Hmmm. Might work.
Mike said:
I bet they'll can it after so many kids throw a Wii-mote.
Aeth said:
Well it sounds good on paper, but we'll see how well it'll truly work. I'm sure if they have one Wii with Super Smash Bros Brawl and only allow 5 minute matches it'll attract a lot of kids who don't have it yet.
insultman911 said:
Bad idea because they're just going to ignore the books and watch the game, but I like that idea.

I doubt that wiiless kids will care about the books there.

I'm going to destroy them if they don't have Brain Age. I mean, it's only perfectly logical and reasonable.

That's funny! I wish my school had it.

What they do just to make children read!
jskrdude said:
Or you'll get a crowd of loud, talking, laughing kids hanging out in the corner of the library watching the other kids play Wii. But if they set up the Wii stations right, this could work well.

Are you kidding me! Wiis in a Library!?
Jonny said:
Dood, that's amazing, ha. If I didn't have a Wii of my own, I'd get a job there, and stay extra late to play the Wii all by myself.
Master Foot said:
Bad idea! Kids today have much shorter attention spans than the 8 and 16 bit kids of yesteryear. In addition, reading will become secondary which defeats the purpose of a library. Seriously, like kids are going to read while waiting to play Wii.
BrothaZ said:
Ha that's actually kind of funny. But cool.
Monkeys9 said:
It's sad that we have to go that extent to get kids to read.
akash said:
Oh snap. Still, the library is a very frightening place for me. That's why I got my own Wii.

I'm just going for the games and keep getting back in line.

This is just like Arcade Machines. At first they're at one one spot, but then they're everywhere.
Wii said:
Bad idea, I mean no kid in their right mind these days actually WANTS to reas, except the smart ones who want to get in a good college. Their parents make them come for books, but stay for Wii, most kids anyway. That's all I'm saying.
Franksy said:
When the kids get there they're all going to be in the queue for the Wii rather than reading books! If anyone is sensible they'll buy their own Wii and get their own games and don't let other kids play on it.

What a coincidence! I'm in Lee county right now and I passed by that library the other day.
Sonic Phantom said:
Well this is nice. I mean, I don't go to the library to check out books any more, but this may change my mind maybe.
Diddy Kong Lover said:
I resent that, I love reading and I'm not even a nerd. I really doubt it'll work. Eventually they'll get their own and then what will happen, or the books could be used for purposes other than reading.
Master Foot said:
I also heard that Cape Coral Library is planning to install 360s as heaters and PS3s as bookends once this takes off.
Diddy Kong Lover said:
They'd have to place the Wii's very strategically for this to be pulled off otherwise you've got yappy kids all centered around a Wii.
akheem47 said:
They could make a rule where you have to read to play.
B Darius said:
Just imagine if they had Wiis in our school libraries.
rapzeh said:
Kids, don't enter. It's a TRAP.
Pete said:
But would people who go there already get sidetracked.
Nintendoof said:
Everyone probably already has one.
Gamer Prodigy said:
A remote through the TV will put a stop to this, but as far as a queue they could go to the station or whatever and get a number sort of like a deli. Better than noise. And only say 5 would be allowed in at once. Yeah I can see this working. I can also see the library spending 100s of dollars in replacing stolen/broken equipment though.

Any gamer knows that 15 minutes of play is not enough to stimulate your average hyperactive kid. Though it was a nice idea.

Hah. Nice to have that kind of advertising, isn't it Nintendo Corporation?
