According to reports going around, the Wii version of Tomb Raider Underworld has a game breaking glitch which crops up in some cases, making it impossible to continue further.
The problem arises near the end of the Coastal Thailand area, where an important lever sometimes fails to appear.
A number of users on the game's official forum have run into the same issue, but so far Eidos has neglected to comment on a solution.

Wow, that sucks.

The point of the matter is there should not be a solution, the glitch shouldn't be there full stop. It's hard-drives and way of the pc type thinking creeping over to console from lame pc development and the lazy quality of x360/ps3 games. Just because a sony fan puts up with glitches, bugs, freezes etc and loves his download patches doesn't mean Wii have to put up with it. A game like any other retail media product should be complete and fully quality controlled before release, totally unacceptable, replacement disc and some kind of compensation is in order not EXCUSES.
ColdFusion said:
Yeah what he said.
Nova said:
Funny. KotOR had something similar but nobody really cared.
Master Foot said:
Yeah, what ColdFusion said. I may be wrong, but it goes to show that not much effort was put into making the Wii version of the game a quality port. This is why I think most people will just pony up for the "next gen" version than have to deal with this mess. Come to think of it, I think Lara had something to do with that lever.

I'm in the remnants level and I've followed the stream, killed 2 tigers and now I'm stuck! I'm not sure where to go next. Can someone help me? I can't find a way up to the temple part.
Ashy said:
At least you made it that far. It wouldn't let me progress further than the Mediterranean Sea level. The screen would go black and freeze the whole system when Lara died, even if I didn't die it would freeze and make some annoying sound. Clearly exchanged the game the next day.
Stephanie said:
I was a victim of this glitch and it completely sucked. It was so disappointing. I almost didn't want to start over and was ready to trade the game in.
jimbo said:
I have had my copy on the Wii since release and must say I have just completed it with, ok, some dodgy moments from what would seem poor effort for Wii development but no major glitches. I am outraged at the new version as Legend was spot on and can't believe it's over already. Normally drag T/R out over a few months. Dunno what I'm going to play now on Xmas day. Boo hoo.
rachel said:
I'm stuck on the coastal Thailand level, with no lever there for me to pull. This is a joke, I paid 40 for some hardly made game. It's nowhere near good enough. I thought there was going to be problems though as the game kept freezing and she got suck in the program. There needs to be a recall.
Sharon said:
I've tried all the suggestions for fixing the missing lever glitch on the Thailand level, including replaying the game from the beginning without saving (twice). I've long been a fan of TR, but their "fixes" for this issue are absolutely unacceptable. Recall this game and do the right thing Eidos, or I won't be buying any more of your games. I want my money back.
tamara said:
My problem is that I'm in the Med Sea level with the Kraken. And it keeps telling me to press B (grapple) on part of the machinery even though I've already done that. The B keeps popping up and I've tried everything thinking that I must do something but nothing happens. Lara just shakes her head likes she's either disappointed in the fact that I'm stuck on just this part. Or how horrible this games operations is turning out. Anyone can help me? What should I do next if I just leave it saying B? Where do I go! AHHHH.
Thalia said:
Great, thanks for pointing the glitch. I thought I would go mad *grr*.

Dude, I'm blagged. Got up to the whole video of explaining why Croft Manor blew up, and Lara trying to save Alistar etc. Then it goes onto the loading screen for the next level, where the writing comes up. Saying about her Father and where the Thor's Belt and Hammer are, then right at the end of it. FREEZE! Just doesn't load at all. This morning I started a new one (annoyance) and that was fine, went to load the previous game again. Same thing. Keeps happening.

When I go to Southern Mexico, there are two yellow bars above the calendar that are not supposed to be there and do not allow me to progress further than that part.

I'm stuck in the Mediterranean sea level right after the big octopus thing. I got one of the buttons to go down that unlocks one of the levers, but then I can't figure out how to get the other one to go down and get the door open.
Anna said:
Does anyone experience the glitch on the Thailand level with the first tiger where the screen freezes if you press the + button? Not only that, but for some reason I can't pull out my guns and shoot it, nor does the 1 button work. If you've experienced this glitch and know any way of getting around it please please let me know.
Emma said:
I've got the same problem as NRK. There are 2 yellow bars above the calendar. They won't go and there is no way you can turn the calendar because the minus sign doesn't show up anywhere.

I've had multiple switch glitches; I never even got to the weight activated one in Thailand because I couldn't get the switch on the elevator to work. I downloaded a fix and felt like I missed out on some fun. Now I've completed the cave under Croft Manor and the switch leading to her Secret bedroom door doesn't work. I feel stupid and powerless, Eidos doesn't address this at all on their web page; notably lacking a "contact us" link as well. Gee, thanks for the really cool game guys.
annie said:
Got to the end of croft manor, saw vt, then whole game froze. Luckily we never had the lever glitch on the Thailand level.
josh said:
I'm so confused. I've called like every game store around me and every one of them said that they recalled the game, because on the Wii version there is no ending. I was like what, anyone know what's wrong?
Daniel said:
4th Glitch dammit, including a new one - NOT restarting again- bloody OVER IT. OK, so we all know about the first glitch in Coastal Thailand- the one where the lever doesn't appear up near the end of the level? Well- I hit that one 3 times for gods sake, then hit another one in Mexico. The first time I hit the Thailand one, I looked round for a bloody non-existent lever for an hour and a half, then restarted. The second time I came across it, I made some calls to mates, but they weren't up to it yet, so I restarted AGAIN. The third time I hit it, I got onto google and downloaded the new save file (and lost all my treasures in the process). NOT happy, but got no options do I? THEN I hit ANOTHER ONE. This time in Mexico, I have just shut off the 'drill' in the pool of blue goo and the fountain is not running, and I'm down underneath it. I have climbed up on the right hand side as you come in, and shot the pillar off that was hanging by a couple of weak looking 'struts'. The bloody game thinks the block is still there, but it's down on the ground after since being shot down there by myself. Now I can't jump to the rail that I assume I'm supposed to jump to, and am left screwed with a game that bloody freezes on occasion and glitches like nothing I've ever seen. (yes- it froze on me twice- once while jumping from something in Thailand, and the second time while riding the motorbike in Mexico) YES I have read the statement, but IMHO it is a load of BS. I've played a hell of a lot of games in my life, and have owned/played countless consoles/games, and NEVER have I seen a game glitch like this (bar the freezing). NEVER have I come across a game that was ever 'missing' something, or left something there that was only JUST moved by the character. I know you say it's an "extremely infrequent bug", but google says otherwise. So while I LOVE tomb Raider - I will not be buying it any more, and will be trading this in for some other poor sucker to deal with, and hopefully they will find the same and complain, hopefully getting your bosses to give the programming department a good kick up the arse to the back of their teeth (and being a gamer, I get frustrated often, but never to this extent, and being that it isn't my skills lacking here, it changes it to a whole different ball game). Bloody ridiculous.
john said:
Luckily I didn't get the Thailand lever glitch but what I did get was in the jan meyan island level. In the hammer room I got to the room with the yeti in it. After the cutscene I killed it and went back outside to find that the first two have vanished. But reloading my save seemed to fix it.
katie said:
I have the same problem as Emma, and don't know how to continue. What did you do to get past this NRK?

Enough complaining bout a glitch, we need help.
Sam said:
Oh my god, I had that same glitch in the Croft Manor leading to Lara's bedroom where the switch wouldn't work, but no one ever talks about that glitch - just the Thailand one. What am I supposed to do about it? They should make patches for it.

I have come to a point in my game where I have got to the croft manor part, I have walked through some caves and come to an opening where there are a few wooden structures and a large water area underneath. I have climbed up the structures to a point where there is a large wheel, I have previously pulled the lever and made the wheel move, however I have now turned my game on today and have had to complete this part again, but when I came to the wheel it will not let me use my grapple and fire it where I want, usually the letter B appears on the screen, however now it does not. Is this a glitch or am I just stupid?
John said:
New glitch? A freeze going to the temple at Thailand. I went to jump to the left column leading to the temple. Laura froze in mid air and got lots of humming noise. Reloaded but same thing happened. I will try to start new game, if it doesn't work I'm taking it back for a full refund.
alex said:
Another glitch, I'm trying to save for a 5th time and can't overwrite an existing file, the system says it's done it but when I go to open the file, it reverts to the previous file. Makes it hard to continue on with the game past a 4th save point. Does anyone have a solution to this mess?
John 2 said:
Yes, another freeze in the Thailand. After the first tiger in front of the temple where you are supposed to jump to the left pillar. Laura freezes in mid air and the system makes a humming noise. Tried to reboot. It didn't work. I couldn't even shut the Wii off. Had to pull plug to reset. I ran it again and same thing happens from the same save file. I guess I will have to start over and periodically save to different files to avoid starting from the beginning. Hopefully I can get to the other glitches and complain some more HA HA. What a way to waste time and money.
kellie said:
Has anyone had a problem with going into the water on one level? It keeps freezing. This isn't fair, I was really getting into it. I really don't want to start again. It's happening on the pc too. This needs to be sorted, but easier said than done I guess.
mmki said:
I don't see where anyone is having the problem. I am at Coastal Thailand. I'm where you have to pull the two pins so you can go back and pull the switch so the platform will fall and you lower Laura with the grappling hook. I've pulled both pins but Laura still can't move the switch. When I read the hint (A) and the solution (C) it says the switch should work since both pins are pulled. Wrong! I've gone back to make sure I didn't miss something but everything checks out, the switch simply won't move. So is this yet another glitch or am I stupid and missing something?
Emma said:
My Tomb Raider has been great so far, but now I'm in Mexico when I get to a certain place in the level it just freezes and I have to turn off the Wii. Also there are some people in the level that shoot me but I don't have any guns for some reason.
Sara said:
I was lucky not to have the Thailand switch glitch. I am now on Mexico and last night as I was at Thor and about to grapple the dragon when the game froze and squealed. I did the level again (because I didn't save my checkpoints) and now it has frozen in a different place (where you descend down all the walls to the door above the blue water after dropping down the drain) but my last saved checkpoint is where this glitch is and my last saved point before that is in Thailand. So I really don't want to do Thailand, Croft Manor and Mexico again because I HATE the Mexico level. If I reboot the Wii like some peeps have suggested, will I lose all my progress?
julie said:
Well I had gotten this game for Christmas and was excited about it when I came about this glitch where it freezes up, so I went and returned it and bought a new one, thinking the glitch would stop, or it was either faulty manufacturing or a defect in the game itself. So I pop it in the Wii and I still had my save progress on the system I went to go try what I was trying on the previous game, so far it was okay, once I started moving around the same glitch happened. I was pissed after I had just drove 1/2 hour to buy something that doesn't work.
Cory said:
That's crap, I thought I was going crazy because it kept saying pull the leaver. I'm like where?! I want my money back. I shouldn't have to pay $40 for a game that doesn't go half way through it.
Jo said:
I finished the Mexico level and got to the next one and foolishly assumed it would save my progress; but no, had to do the whole damn level again! I experienced the freeze in Croft Manor, where I had to reset the Wii and start level again also. Love Tomb Raider series but wish I'd bought the pc version.
Lauren said:
I have the same problem as mmki, for some reason it's being an ass and not letting me. Grrr. Well, I guess the only thing left for me is to start all over. Great, another three hours wasted by trying to fix a game. What also sucks, is that this game is basically my first actual game that isn't a board game. Yeah, and I'm 14. I got really excited and then BAM. I'm screwed. Okay, I'm done ranting. It was either taking it out while typing or screaming at my tv. Glad I chose this one.
Mel said:
Just to let you people know. There is a fix for the Thailand glitch. You must restart the level from scratch and YOU MUST NOT SWIM UNDERWATER AT ALL! Doing this triggers off the bug in the game and will lead to you not having a lever at the end of the level. Eidos has posted this on their website.
Toria said:
I have the Thailand glitch. Very bleeding annoying! I have tried to save two different versions of the save patch to an SD card but the data doesn't show up yet all other bits 'n' bobs on said SD card are there. Seriously cheesed off. Does anyone know of a way to rid the Thailand 'switch glitch' without restarting or does anyone please have a save patch that actually works!

Let me try this again. I think my brain went stupid. Ok here goes. I need help getting past the room that has the hammers that swing back and forth. I killed the giant and rode the weights to the top, got on the hammer and landed on a pillar, but don't know how to get any farther. Anyone know?
dazo said:
I'm stuck on the Jan Mayen level! I've managed to get across the two hammers but I think I have a major glitch now. I don't go through any checkpoints (which I know were there the first time until I died) and so the level always starts right at the beginning of the level so I have to do it all over again, grrr! Royal, you need to jump to the taller pillar, shimmy left around the corner, drop to a lower ledge and you will see a pole, swing off the pole onto the sloping pillar and you will slide to a wooden beam. Go across the beam jump on the ledge, shimmy right and you will see a short beam on the opposite side, cross this jump to the next pillar, shimmy all the way round and do one of them jumps where you go back and forth jumping until you reach the top of the pillar.

I'm having the same problem in coastal Thailand. I had completed the game before but didn't collect the treasure so I restarted the game collected all the treasure from the Mediterranean sea and Thailand then where the pole should have been it's not there urghhhh. It's so frustrating I collected all treasures! They should fix it.

So, I've been playing Tomb Raider since it came out, and I must say, I am no longer a supporter of the people who made this damn game. Thanks for stealing my cash you worthless sacks of shit. I started the game over because I read a walkthrough and I shouldn't have believed it. But I started over anyway and I had the same glitch problem with the bar in the last part of Thailand. What should I do to make the glitch go away?

I am actually so frustrated with this stupid game. Luckily I didn't have the Thailand glitch, but I have the one in the croft manor before Lara's bedroom. When I walk through the fire and I come to the switch, I can't pull it down. I have already looked around on websites and stuff, but no one seems to have any answers to this problem. Can anyone help?
December said:
I wonder if someone can help. The Tomb Raider website doesn't seem to want to. I'm on the level in the Kraken's den, and I'm up on the sun-shaped spiky bit above its head, and there's a lever. Lara will put her hands on the lever and try to pull it but it won't budge. There's also another lever in a room nearby that she won't pull either. They're the vertical type sticking out of the ground. I've tried everything, every button combination and every Wii remote movement I could think of.

I'm having the same problem as mmki in Coastland Thailand where you have to pull the two pins so you can go back and pull the switch so the platform will fall and you lower Laura with the grappling hook. I too have pulled both pins but Laura can't move the switch. I've even tried going back to a save before this level and doing it all again but to no avail. Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Yea the exact same thing happened to me with the elevator. I pulled out both pins and the lever doesn't push down. I've done everything I was supposed to do. HELP. I went back and started from the beginning of coastal Thailand twice and it still won't pull.
Horace said:
I did that in coastal Thailand, with the elevator, but soon to realize I wasn't using the controls right. You have to do a pulling down action with the Wii remote and nunchuck after pressing (-), silly really not to realize. I'm stuck in Mexico, I've fallen down the pit and lost my bike, anyone know how to get it back?

Level 3 Croft manor- just killed the stone things after getting the gauntlet, climbed up to the hole and nothing was there. Stepped out into space and stood there, then it went black screen but could still hear running about sounds as I moved.
