Datel retro Wii controllers

Datel retro Wii controllers

Datel (of Freeloader fame) have come out with two new pads for the Wii. First up we've got the Old Skool Retro Controller. What it lacks in analog sticks it makes up for with ye olde charm and style. It also has rapid fire switches. It's claimed to be ideal for games downloaded from the Virtual Console (not N64 ones I guess?).

Secondly, here's the Retro Wireless Controller. It looks basically the same as the standard Classic Controller from Nintendo, except it's completely wireless, not even needing the Wiimote to function.

Good ideas or bad? Tap those keys.

I don't think you can do much with the old skool controller, other than play nes games. You'd probably get more functionality out of a snes remake.

Wow the old one is a great tribute to the Famicom.

Nova, the old skool controller has SNES buttons and just looks like an NES controller. X and Y are present and if you look close, even R and L seem to be there. I kind of wish that Nintendo would release these gadgets. A wireless classic controller, or better yet, a wireless Wii-patible SNES, N64 or NES duplicate.

I like the idea of the wireless classic controller because I think it's kind of dumb that you have to plug into a wiimote. This is a good idea. The snes controller, not so much if it can't even be used for N64 games.

I just got one of these for playing Mario Kart Wii and find it so much better than using the Wii Wheel, much sharper control and many more 1st place finishes. Good quality and feel of it, good analogue thumbsticks and nice grips on the underside. Only complaint is that the 'A' button is too close to the edge.

I've been looking for something like this. I can play NES and Genesis roms on my Nokia E71x and I am also able to use the Wii remote to control the games as it uses bluetooth, the only problem is, the amount of buttons and the button location. It seemed pretty silly having to plug in the classic corded remote into the Wii remote just to play a game on my phone but with this, it might just make sense.

I do know that Nintendo makes super famicom remakes in Japan and I actually got close to buying one while I was there. Why I didn't is beyond me.
