March NPD numbers and MadWorld

March NPD numbers and MadWorld

Console sales in the US for the month of March are down a little all across the board. Needless to say, Nintendo is still laughing at the "competition".

  1. Nintendo Wii - 601,000
  2. Nintendo DS - 563,000
  3. XBroke 360 - 330,000
  4. Sony PoS3 - 218,000
  5. Sony PSP - 168,000

The success of MadWorld has been a little more modest however, with 66,000 units sold in the US during March. Sean Ratcliffe, a marketing executive at Sega isn't disheartened though, commenting in a recent interview:

"The House of the Dead: Overkill has done very well and has absolutely met our expectations. The first set of data for MadWorld is very encouraging as well".

Sales for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS aren't very hot either, reportedly moving 89,000 copies.

WHAT! Come on people, MadWorld is a solid game - you should be buying it.

I think it's too violent, I heard it swears non-stop with f-bombs every 2 seconds.

@Wiiman: I believe I've said this before but I don't care much about whether a game's violent or not. As long as it's fun I'll most likely get it.

Madworld is fun as hell, and with the commentators it's just as entertaining. They seem to have something to say on everything and not just a few lines of the same thing (they do have some lines like that if you repeat your same moves).

Madworld black & white graphics will not appeal to many, and the violent angle isn't so much not wanted by Nintendo fans, it's the whole it's only good if it is violent angle Nintendo fans disagree with. This game isn't like that, the violence actually is part of the fun. But I think the sales are more a case of poor marketing and those unwanted black & white visuals.

And yet Sony still loses.

I agree with wiiman. The game's violence might be fun, but I don't want to play a game with a whole ton of swearing (let alone own it in my parents house).

A few weeks ago I actually went on a tour of sony computer entertainment in Tokyo (don't ask why, I don't even know). Weirdest experience ever. They spent about an hour talking about the PS3's superior air intake system. No mention of games or sales.

@Albino: I stand by my previous statement. If your parents are upset by the swearing hook head phones up to your TV, turn the volume down, or play it when they aren't around. Not that I've ever had to actually try something like this since my parents trust that I'm mature enough to handle these games.
