Looks like Capcom are really going all out to please nostalgia fans with the upcoming Mega Man 9. In a recent interview with producer Hironobu Takeshita, he confirmed that you would have an option to turn on old-school glitches.
"On the NES you couldn't have more than three enemies on the screen at once, so we had to make sure that that's how it stayed in our game. At the part with the dragon and flames, there should be flickering and whatnot".
"In the options of this game, you can adjust that, unlike the old games. We purposely put some of those old-school bugs in, so it does recreate that feel".
I've also heard the game crashes unless you blow air into the Wii slot. It's gonna be good.

I think the option to add those glitches in says something about the development team's dedication, but I for one will leave them off.

It's cool and all, but it may be a dangerous idea to go backwards instead of forwards. The video game industry can only survive if new ideas are presented and technological (as well well as gameplay) progress is achieved. Now it's fine that they do this sometimes but I hope we won't be seeing much more.

Since glitches like this from the 8-bit era are now back in style, I guess screen tearing low res textures will be the new retro "thing" in the next 20 years.
