Nintendo fixing bricked Wiis after firmware 4.2

After the recent 4.2 firmware update tackling Homebrew, a number of innocent bystanders found that their Wii consoles no longer worked. Nintendo has put out a statement advising these gamers to contact their customer service departments.

We are aware of a very small number of reported problems with Wii consoles after updating to the Wii System Menu 4.2.

The symptoms described usually occur when a Wii console has been modified. However, there are a very small number of people reporting problems when a system has never been modified.

If anyone is experiencing problems with their Wii console after downloading Wii System Menu 4.2, and believe their system has not been modified, please contact our customer service center. If we find that you have a normal system and the update has caused your system to not work, we will repair it at no charge.

Please do not return anything to our customer service department without contacting them first for advice.

I still haven't updated mine, maybe I'll wait for 4.3.

I updated my Wii to 4.2 and it worked fine, so I left my Wii off because it had untested code that was leaked on to my Wii and I haven't played my Wii for days. I strongly advise every Wii users to wait for an update that will fix the issues found in system menu 4.2.
