Nintendo to test smartphone/tablet market
I got to admit I didn't see this one coming! Nintendo has confirmed, at The Pokemon World Championship, that it is bringing its popular Pokemon Trading Card Game to the iPad!
Other than knowing it's real, further details such as gameplay and a release date were not provided. While there have been several Pokemon related apps released for Apple devices, this will be the first time that a full-fledged game from the franchise has landed on iOS.
This also marks a significant change in Nintendo's policy. The company, in the past, flatly refused to release any of its popular franchises to smartphones and tablets. Even as these devices slowly chipped away at their portable gaming empire.
So does this mean that Nintendo will start embracing smartphones and tablets? We'll just have to wait and see.
