VC may never see Earthbound

VC may never see Earthbound

New reports are suggesting that the SNES cult-classic Earthbound may never be released on the Virtual Console, in the US at least.

The reason for this? Licensing issues. Nintendo of America feels that some of the music used in-game is too similar to real-life songs which are copyrighted, potentially leading to legal problems. Unfortunately, NCL (Nintendo's Japanese arm) isn't willing to approve changes, leaving things in deadlock.

Earthbound came first in ONM's readers request poll for the VC, so this is likely to dismay a few people.

Yeah. This is ridiculous. All music is ripping off from other music. Like most death metal bands sound the same, COPYRIGHT! Nintendo can try SOMETHING.

If they're so scared of VC, why can't Nintendo do what they are best at. Make a remake! (with different music of course).

Copyrights suck! This is why so many of the good games never get released in North America.

I agree with Diddy Kong Lover. Now that we know Nintendo is not releasing Earthbound for VC, could we get a remake of it for DS instead or better yet a remake of it and its prequel? I know GBA Japan got Mother 1+2 in one cartridge so don't tell me it can't be done on DS as well. Also if they could, just slap Mother 3 on there as well to make it a trilogy Earthbound game. Having to play as Ninten, Ness and Lucas in one package would be awesome.
