Sources close to Nintendo are claiming that Shigeru Miyamoto has been banned from speaking about his hobbies in public.
This shock news comes from the fact that any inside glimpse into the man's lifestyle could potentially be worth billions to competitors. Many of Nintendo's successful franchises in recent years have been inspired by what Shigsy gets up to in his free time.
Ideas for Pikmin originated from his love of gardening. Nintendogs arrived when he began taking care of a puppy. Donkey Kong hit the scene after he was convicted of fondling monkeys (not really). Wii Fit and Wii Music also came about from his personal interests.
So what's next from Miyamoto? Anything's possible.

This made me laugh pretty hard. The image is good too, poor guy. That's pretty messed up man.

I wonder if the poor man actually saw pikmin running around his garden while he tried planting his flowers. I could imagine that; as he plants his new rose bush, a crowd of pikmin come and rip it from the ground. Shigsy then gives chase, beating them with his gardening shovel. Then he decides that although disturbing, it would make for an interesting game.

Ha. As if anyone could have guessed that when Shigeru mentioned gardening, Pikmin would have been born, or anyone else could look at a puppy and come up with Nintendogs. I don't think anyone else could take what Shigeru says and apply it to gaming the same way he does.
Rozz said:
Jonny, Shigeru wouldn't find hitting pikmin with his gardening tools disturbing, he would want more people to get into it.

If his hobby involves wiimotes and bums I'm not interested.

I could see how this is good idea from a business point but then again from a personal view it would be kind of annoying to sell your soul to a company, like Shigeru Miyamoto did to Nintendo. Don't get me wrong he's fantastic for being so loyal to Nintendo and I am completely grateful. But if he separated and left to form his own company, he'd probably be a billionaire by now. Thank god he's not.

This sounds seriously stupid. Why would he be banned from talking about his hobbies? It's not like anyone's going to successfully steal one of his ideas by just listening to his hobbies. When I think of gardening I don't think of vegetable like animals running around and I don't think a lot of other people do.

Nintendogs actually wasn't too outstanding, and similar games have already existed.

That's pretty harsh. Banned from hobby talk.

I couldn't see Sony making games out of things like that.
falconV said:
I don't think many people think the way Shigeru does. What they're doing might be a little too harsh.

Don't forget Legend of Zelda was created by his childhood days in the forest and um the title StarFox came from a fox statue (I think).

He's like Miyazaki, whatever inspires the guy becomes a video game (that's how Miyazaki's films became what they are).
