Super Mario Galaxy
The ultimate Nintendo hero is taking the ultimate step ... out into space. Join Mario as he ushers in a new era of video games, defying gravity across all the planets in the galaxy.
- Shake, tilt and point! Mario takes advantage of all the unique aspects of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller, unleashing new moves as players shake the controller and even point at and drag items with the pointer.
- Mario essentially defined the 3-D platforming genre with Super Mario 64, and this game proves once again that he is king. Players perform mind-bending, low-gravity jumps across wild alien terrain as they experience platforming for a new generation.
Game StorylineWhen some creature escapes into space with Princess Peach, Mario gives chase, exploring bizarre planets all across the galaxy.
CharactersMario, Peach and enemies new and old.
How to Progress Through the GamePlayers run, jump and battle enemies as they explore all the planets in the galaxy. Since this game makes full use of all the features of the Wii Remote, players have to do all kinds of things to succeed: pressing buttons, swinging the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk, and even pointing at and dragging things with the pointer.
Special Powers/Weapons/Moves/FeaturesSince he's in space, Mario can perform mind-bending jumps unlike anything he's done before. He'll also have a wealth of new moves that are all based around tilting, pointing and shaking the Wii Remote.

According to the E3 press conference, this will be out on launch date. I think you will use the \"new\" remotes and not the classic, no idea how it will affect the gameplay though.

Yeah MARIO! This is a must buy for Wii owners. The demo at E3 '06 was awesome.

I read somewhere (I apologize, but I don't remember where) that Super Mario Galaxy's release would be delayed, but it would definitely be released within the first 6 months of the Wii.

Loved the E3 footage. Spider boss and Boss-bot looked awesome.
gameface24 said:
Don't get me wrong I'm all for the wii but I think it needs better games. I'm scrolling through all of them and they are mostly for children. I think it would be a lot better if the Wii made games for serious gamers instead of the Adventures of Spongebob Squarepants. The Wii won at E3 so you can't just make the console good, make the games good too.
JD said:
The gameplay looks fun. Oh, gameface24, just because a game is childish doesn't mean it's bad. Games can still be as good. I mean, yeah, serious games would be cool. Do they REALLY have to be for adults? There could be amazing games, but small children can't play them. Nintendo are just trying to appeal to the entire market. Although I agree that some of the games are really bad, like Spongebob Squarepants but the overall amount of games are great. At least we all agree Wii is kick ass.
Koen van Beeck said:
Eh. Third party. Of course there'll be sucky games based on movies/cartoon/whatnot. But it's not like that's new, people. Those games have been around since the NES era. I also don't see why you said that HERE, gameface. Mario is an example of how E-rated games CAN be good.
JD said:
Agreed Koen. You get what I mean.
DEMON5007 said:
Hey, there isn't a total lack of older games. Red steel will be out and well, that's about it. But I agree with JD and Koen. Do you really need an unrealistic amount of blood to make a game appealing? It just drives most parents and some older people away. Besides, I'm sure as time rolls on more older games will be released.

'Cooler Than You said:
kiki, Rachi and "Luigi", you obviously have never heard of the Mario & Luigi RPG games. Luigi plays a big role in those.
Lord Random said:
True and everywhere else he's Mario's second. Besides, at least this is a canon game. I was starting to get sick 'n tired of all those spinoffs. They're good but they cause the media to be all "Mario this, Mario that". And I'm like "Will you please shut up about Mario!?". You've got to admit that although Mario is cool, the amount of Mario spinoff games there are is annoying.
SpineyPlantManThingy said:
For a moment I thought Nintendo had no Mario ideas left, glad I was wrong.

You're right, 'Cooler Than You, kiki obviously has never heard of games like Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga and Partners in time, Luigi's mansion and probably some other games. Darunia106, Nintendo should have followed your theory and made a Super Mario Solar System after they made Super Mario World. NoNB, I want a Bowser Game. I'm in a beat the stuffing out of Mario mood.

Lord Random said:
This is a message for 'CTY and Hey. There are one or two games where Luigi has a big role, but everywhere else he's just Mario's second in line. Luigi has one game of his own. Mario has SM64, Paper Mario 1+ 2, SMS and now SMG. Luigi may have a big role in SMBSS, but that's only because he's working with Mario. If Mario's on his own, Luigi's just some guy that knows him. On PMTYD you talk to Luigi about his adventures, but Mario keeps nodding off. Then you talk to his partners and they tell you how he screwed up or something. There you have it: Luigi does not truly get the respect and attention he deserves.
ganondorfrules said:
I agree with lord random and everyone who supports Luigi because Mario has all these games of his own and Luigi is only a figurehead. I'm a big fan of Mario games I admit but it's about time they bring out some games where Luigi is the star. They have Wario world, what's the world comin to? SMG looks good but how many advntures like this do they need? Next it's probably SMU (Super Mario Universe). Bring something new out and I hope you don't have to beat Bowser in this, that's getting old. I think Nintendo should make 1 where Mario and Luigi team up and have to take down Wario and Waluigi.
Princess Daisy said:
How come I can't get my own game!? Everyone treats me like a Peach clone (but I'm a tomboy unlike Peach). Waaah!
Lord Random said:
Because you only had a big role in Super Mario Land. Then you were just another spinoff character like Luigi seems to be considered.
Princess Daisy said:
My day will come, I will show you my real power!
Lord Random said:
Whatever you say. *hide shotgun behind back*.
Princess Peach said:
People love me so I should have more games with yours truly as the star. I know you can't hate me, I'm too peachy to be hated!
r2d2 said:
Mario this, Mario that. Make Yoshi the star!
Toad said:
Who cares about ding-dong Mario!? I should be the star! I'm Toad and I'm cool to the extreme! I'm the one who's cute and smart at the same time. Mario cares about pasta and Yoshi lays eggs! I'm the cool one *cries*.
Lord Random said:
Okay, we all like you better than Daisy, Peach. But could you please do us a favour and please stop getting kidnapped every ten seconds! Oh and r2d2, Yoshi's had his fair share of games. Luigi's the one who needs his time to shine.
r2d2 said:
I know that Yoshi has lots of games but almost all of them are on Gameboy and Nintendo DS!
Killer Ape said:
Who cares about Yoshi, he's just a dumb thing. R2d2 how about you just get an N64 and get Yoshi Story. It's a game all about him, happy now!
Princess Peach said:
Princess Peach promises her fans that she will be more careful and prevent from being kidnapped once again. Do you guys think Toad and Daisy should get their own games?
Ninty-Man said:
R2d2 you forgot the original SNES version of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story on the N64. I know y'all probably flame for doing this but have a look at my name, I feel like singing a small tune! Here goes: "Ninty-Man! Ninty-Man! Does Whatever Nintendo can!". Actually that's all I could think of.
ganondorfrules said:
Yea vote for Luigi and Waluigi. He needs at least 1 game.
Killer Ape said:
Luigi already has a game: Luigi's Mansion. If there was a game about Waluigi it would suck. Splinter Cell freak, Sam Fisher is for sure not going to be in it because he is like Snake.

Hey game face there's a lot of action games made for older gamers, are you blind? Call of duty, Far cry, Mortal kombat, Day of crisis, Resident evil, Trauma center 2, Medal of honor, Bleach, Red steel, Necro nesia, Heroes, Blazing angels. I think that's a lot. And why are you complaining if you're looking at a kid game 'mario'?
splintercell4ever said:
Fisher is not like Snake because Fisher is a double agent and Snake is a patriot. Furthermore, MGS is more of an action series while SC is a PURE stealth series.
dK Repper said:
I think this will be one of the greatest Mario games ever. The space thematic is perfect for the Wii Remote. I hope you know what I mean. But I've a question. Do you think BOWSER is going to make an appearance in this game? I think it's a bit hard to imagine, but at the other side I'm really not able to imagine a brand-new Mario game without Bowser. What's your opinion about that?
Hey said:
In Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, the Star Gate thing vaguely hints that Luigi is a pervert. NOW try to tell me Luigi is a Mario rip-off.
Lord Random said:
No-one said he was a Mario rip-off. I said he's made to look insignificant to Mario a lot of the time.
Jordy said:
Yeah Mario is the best game in history (and Metroid Prime).

I have to admit it, Mario's the man. But I know this is going to be a hit. I still don't know why they changed my new game "Wildfire" to "The Secret Rings", but it's cool as long as they don't change my gameplay.

Look here. Do not impersonate Sonic The Hedgehog. Sonic would not say that. He would have attitude, and you don't. Now as for SMG, I can't wait to play it.

I think Mario Galaxy will be awesome. Mario is an original series, its fire will never burn out!
DarkVic said:
Even though this game is based on the same concept as the other 3D Mario games, I think it's going to be great! Everyone loved SM64, and SMS was along the same lines except it worked with a different system. SMG is going to be a hit because it's like any other mario: Simple and fun! The whole Mario in space thing is a fresh and imaginative idea.
Nintendo iQue said:
Not everyone loved SM64 and SMS. Actually, I hated them. I thought they were too long, drawn out, boring and repetitive. I was really pissed when SMS came out. It was [basically] the same damn game! The last good Mario game since Super Mario World was The New Super Mario Bros. That is sad (I'm not including the RPG games. Those are all great!). Luckily, all of the original Mario games will be able to be downloaded. Oh, and so will Super Mario RPG. I bet most of you never played it because you were 5 when it came out. Do yourself a favor and get the points to download that TRUE classic.
ladeda said:
This game does look somewhat fun but in my opinion it wouldn't be a must buy.
Captain Jamesman said:
What are you saying? This game is a must have for eternity! This game has the potential to be extremely great. If I'm wrong, then hit me on the head with a hammer 3 times!
DarkVic said:
What are you talking about Nintendo iQue! Okay, I agree that SMS was a little too similar, but SM64, come on! That game was Mario's first step into 3d gamehood, it was not repetitive. Its levels were vast and imaginative. SM64 was the game that revolutionized Mario.
ganondorfrules said:
I reckon they needed to test Mario in a 3d world not 2d. Otherwise Mario wouldn't be the most popular character Nintendo can offer us. We need mascots, they represent the company in gaming. So why not bring more Mario and Zelda games out.
Captain Jamesman said:
I wonder what type of Alien Species kidnapped Peach.

Captain Jamesman said:
Bowser isn't always the mastermind behind all of the chaos upon Mario, but it mostly is. Remember Smithy from Mario RPG, or Cackletta from Mario & Luigi, Sir Grodus from Paper Mario TTYD, Wart from Super Mario Bros 2 and even DK pulled the strings in Donkey Kong & Mario VS DK 1 & 2.
Wii-Worshiper said:
This game is stunning, Bowser or no Bowser, I reckon it will be better than Super Mario Sunshine and in my opinion I prefer it to LOZTP. But that's me!
Lord Random said:
I'm kind of getting tired of all this Mario Mario and more Mario stuff. The critics never shut up about him. I only have two Mario spinoffs: Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Party 5. As cool as they may be, the amount of Mario spinoffs is ridiculous. It's good that they're getting back to the good ol' platforming. But rather than Mario, we need more Metroid and Zelda games, at least until it's a little more even.
singapore_meh said:
Every time Bowser isn't the big bad guy, it's because the game isn't under the traditional line of Mario games (SMB 2 excluded, but that game sucked anyways). I think you can expect Bowser to be the big baddie in Galaxy.

Nintendo iQue said:
Here is what I was talking about when I said SM64 was boring and repetitive. When I plugged my sm64 cart into my n64 expecting a NES/SNES era style gameplay. How can you have a speed run with a game that has you collect over 100 stars? I was totally annoyed. The camera was bad too. Don't get me wrong, the game itself was not bad, it just wasn't half as fun as SMB 1-3, World and SMB Yoshi's Island. Mario, in my eyes, is supposed to by like his original incarnate in the arcade version of Donkey Kong. Mario, for me, has always represented pick up and play, action packed, fast, crazy, quirky fun. Mario 64 did revolutionize 3d gaming, I just believe that it doesn't fit into that same 2-d style of gameplay very well. I didn't like it at first. And it's still kind of growing on me.
Scooby!_Jew said:
I have no intentions of offending Mario fanboys when I say this, but: I hope to see the Mario series just one day disappear. He's had his fame and for far too long. I think they should've stopped making Mario games on the SNES because now it's starting to pull a Final Fintasy on us, and that's the last thing Nintendo needs; A PlayStation failure ripoff. As for this particular game, I think Nintendo has proven their fact that they can be innovative even further and I'm really hoping this game isn't going to be a disappointment to Nintendo or they're customers. I think they should make one more Mario game after this and call it quits, don't you agree?
Captain Jamesman said:
GO TO HELL SCOOBY! The Mario series will never end and you know it! I was offended to hear what you said! If you want the Mario Series to end, then you'll have to wait till the world ends.
nuh_uh! said:
I think (providing that the Wii works for Nintendo) that the Mario series can continue because they can continue to adapt Mario to different levels of awesome based on what the current consoles can provide. FF seems neverending to me because of the whole turn based thing which has always struck me as redundant in these new systems.
ForeverDead said:
I know this post is a little late but it must be said, very few people remember the snes game Mario is Missing where you play as *gasp* luigi. Mario was kidnapped and as Luigi you have to hunt him down, I recently purchased it after years of only hearing about it, it's ok, but I just thought I'd let you all know for people who think that Mansion was his first solo game.

Nintendo iQue, How in the right mind can you say that SM64 is repetitive, yet you're in love with super mario 1-3. You ever played through all of the originals? Same 6 level designs over and over again. Oh ya and SMB2 sucked. But Mario 3 and World 1 and 2 were good. Way better than Sunshine.
Wii Monster said:
This is one of my favorite games for the Wii. This goes on my top 5 list. Too bad it doesn't come out with the Wii. Oh and Scooby_Jew, the Mario series will NEVER end! If it did, the world would go to chaos! Keep up the good work, Mario!

Final fantasy is awesome, and its STORYLINES aren't made by sony, so that's okay. But mario is an incredibly flexible series, because you can warp the environments however you want, and put it in any format you want. Look at luigi's mansion and mario party! Are those not signs of true creativity? Oh, and as for scooby, take a look at mario. Did they remake half of all the games in the mario series and make a game that was totally online? Hmm? Yeah, doesn't sound like a final fantasy to me. Oh, and one last thing: don't call mario a playstation ripoff!

I would have to say Bowser. Why? Because Eggman can only build machines when Bowser kicks some butt.

Wow! This game is like a sequel to Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine.

I wonder if Yoshi's in it like in Super Mario Sunshine. It's possible!

I have beaten every single Mario game ever made. Including the newest Mario strikers. I have every console and Gameboy made by Nintendo. I even stayed up 11 hours in front of bestbuy to get me a Wii system. This is a game I can't wait to play.

11 Hours?! Man, talk about dedicated!

This game looks fun. I might get it, if Johnny & May let me get a Wii.
Donkey Kong! said:
Some people like this because he's going into space. Hello he's already been in space like PM2.

Man oh man. Mario look, you've been in business for 24 years, and next year I'll be 16 which means I'm still young. But eventually I'll catch up to your popularity. Good luck Mario, let's go Amy!
Captain Jamesman said:
Donkey Kong! That's another story! This game shows what really happens when Mario's in space. You need to watch the clips for this game to find out yourself. Paper Mario TTYD only had one space area!

A space game about Mario. Now they covered everything!
i need a wii...eww said:
To be honest I think this would be very hard to control, just imagine, you jump, you don't stop. Let's see what happens.

SMB2 doesn't count as a mario game. The reason it wasn't like the rest of the series, and didn't have Bowser as the main boss is it's just a ripoff of a game called Dream Factory: Doki Doki Panic. The american SMB2 was even re-relased in Japan as Super Mario USA. The real super mario 2 is known in america as the "lost levels" and can be found on Super Mario All Stars. There's a reason they call it the lost levels: because the real SMB2 never got released outside Japan.

Ok, I see two sides in the Wii debate. On one side I'm so excited about the good. Super Smash Bros Brawl, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and for those who like "older" games Red Steel and Call of Duty 3. And who can forget the release of the first Mario platformer (except for Sunshine but c'mon ewww) MARIO GALAXY? I think about that remote and how awesome it would be to use that for FPSs, sword fighting games or anything really. The prices $250 as opposed to PS3 at $600. Nintendo is introducing fresh ideas into a stale industry. The only difference between a PS3 and a PS2 or an Xbox and an Xbox 360 is slightly better graphics, internet capabilities and a hard drive. Aside from that it's exactly the same! They don't even get their own name only changed numbers. FPS after FPS after FPS. Sports game after sports game after sports game. It's all the same and it all sucks. But on the other hand I see Mario ceasing to be. Mario. I think about the charm I fell in love with as a child, playing Super Mario World on my SNES, playing as Mario and Luigi, hopping on Yoshi, jumping on Koopa shells and killing classic foes as I roamed through my two-dimensional world. Or playing Super Mario 64 grabbing onto Bowser's tail and throwing him into the diamond shaped bomb thing. When I look at SMG (hehe smug) I don't see any of those classic elements. Where is Yoshi? Where is Bowser? Where is Koopa? Where is everything I've come to expect from you Mario? I feel as though anyone could replace Mario in this game and it would still be a success. Like this game was only created to fill the void and keeping Mario's name running. I Mario as an adult and Yoshi have only played together in ONE platformer. As with Super Mario Sunshine, I don't see a Mario game but merely a game with Mario's face on it. I see peoples emotional attachments to a figure that no longer represented what it used to. I almost wish that Mario would hang his awesome red hat and not make any more games. On an unrelated note, I want them to make a new Street Fighters. Kind of, it might suck though. But screw it. The Wii is AWESOME. I'm definitely going to try to get one. There's no alternative anyways. I don't want a PS2 or Xbox update as I like to call it. I want something new. This is the first time I've been excited about video games since 1996!

Yeah mario was in space in pm2, but it wasn't a space game. It just was like one chapter. I have the game. And Chibi this is super mario galaxy not smb2.
Peter Griffin said:
Hopefully, this will be something like Super Mario 64 from the Nintendo 64.

I never got into the 2d mario games. I was forced to play them for and hour once (long story) and they were boring. All the 3d mainline and spinoffs have been fantastic apart from super mario smash football cause I hate football.
DarkVic said:
I really hope they make a game that's only about Yoshi. It would be awesome using the Wii controls for him!
Captain Jamesman said:
I agree with you DarkVic, Yoshi should have his own game on Wii! I mean, he didn't have his own gamecube game, when DK & Wario did.
Toad said:
Yoshi needs his own game. I always agree with you captain jamesman. At every Mario game chat place lol.

I hope Luigi is unlockable.
